Growth & Regeneration
Sep 12, 2006, 17:25

Growth and regeneration can make the East of England a national economic leader. However, culture is vital to ensure that growth is balanced and sustainable.

Growth cannot be ignored; it is happening. It is our response to growth that will determine whether it brings us prosperity and happiness or exclusion and difficulty. Culture encourages people to open their eyes, engage in their future and find their own responses to challenges.

Fostering community cohesion will be key to the success of new and regenerated areas, and culture has a critical role to play in this.

To deal with the challenges of growth through culture, we advocate:

  • integrating culture with planning
  • encouraging planning for cultural assets and infrastructure in growth areas
  • ensuring regeneration projects have a cultural element
  • increasing cultural investment
  • advocating the benefits of cultural infrastructure
  • improving the co-ordination of funding
