Choosing Your Career Carefully

Whether you’re just starting to choose your career path following graduation or are looking at and considering a career change; you always need to make sure you choose your career path carefully. Many people will remain in a certain career for the whole of their lives and, as such, you need to make sure you’re entering an industry which you genuinely love working in and can see yourself in for the next 40 years. It isn’t the easiest of things changing your career path and it can involve years of re-training and exams before it’s possible to, where you can, choose a career path you can see yourself remaning in.

First things first; always try and choose a career path which you’ve got an interest in.  Whether you’ve developed an interest in a particular subject area through your studies or through something elsewhere; you’re far more likely to remain in a career if you enjoy what you do! We spoke with Dave, a recent finance graduate who’s currently applying for financial adviser jobs. He stated to us, “if you don’t enjoy what you’re going into…you won’t last 5 minutes. Your love for a career needs to outweigh any setbacks and negatives of the job (they all have them), be that long hours or weeks on end away. I’ve been applying for financial advisor jobs from Foundation because I love advising on financial products! It’s something I’ve always wanted to do and I can see myself remaining in the career for a long time.”

Above all; don’t just rush into choosing your career path. It’s a big decision and shouldn’t be one made in an instant. Take time to consider your options and to have a think what it is you really want to do. Make sure you enter a career which you love and we can guarantee it’ll be for the long run and you won’t be changing jobs every few years.
